EMA Duties and Responsibilities:
The Union County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) is a multi-functional department tasked to prepare, respond, and recover from several types of natural, man-made, and technological disasters. The referenced disasters include severe weather emergencies (severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, floods, etc.), large fires, and hazardous materials incidents.
The EMA office serves as a liaison between local governments, the State of Mississippi, and the federal government on emergency management issues. In addition, the office functions as a data collection point for county facilities that manufacture and/or store hazardous materials. The location and type of hazardous materials are important to know in case of a large fire or explosion.
The Union County EMA office develops and maintains a comprehensive emergency management program (CEMP) in coordination and planning with local, state, federal, and private agencies in order to protect life and property from hazardous events. The office also establishes, maintains, and operates an emergency operations center (EOC) from which officials can conduct operations during emergency and disaster conditions.

CodeRED® Weather Warning is a unique service that automatically notifies citizens in the path of severe weather just moments after a warning has been issued by the National Weather Service. You can select whether you receive notifications for the following severe weather warnings: tornado, severe thunderstorm, and flash flood.
NOTE: The CodeRED® notification service operates on software designed to be active 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Software in general is not error free. In the event of an unlikely system error or notification failure, Lee County shall not be held responsible.
